'Brown Rush' is likely to be found on wet, boggy camp where there are wet depressions or damp, marshy areas around ponds. This rush is an warning indicator for vehicles, which are likely to ''bog' crossing an area where it grows. Brown short rush grows in loose clumps to around 25 cm (9.8 inches) high. The solitaty flowers which appear November/ December are insignificant but ripen to distinctive brown/ reddish shiny seed capsules. Native to the Falkland Islands, found on East and West Falkland, widespread, also found on Patagonia, South Georgia, Campbell Islands, Auckland Islands, and South Island New Zealand.
